Planning

Good planning is the key to making children's learning effective, exciting, varied and progressive. It enables practitioners to build up knowledge about how individual children learn and make progress and ensures you are prepared to carry out activities and meet the needs of each child.

There is no ‘right way’ or magic formula to planning; however effective plans:

• Are linked to the 6 Areas of Learning and Development
• Include all aspects of the children’s day including routines, as all of these experiences are important in children’s development and learning.
• Are evaluated regularly to ensure reflective practice and quality of provision.
• Are flexible and adaptable due to the changing needs and interests of children
• Are developed from observations and responsive to the needs and interests of a particular group of children and/or individual child.

It’s Important to Remember…

As planning is based on current interests, plans should not be developed too far in advance. They should also contain the suggestions and ideas from both children and parents and should be shared with parents on your notice board. Below are some basic templates with you may find useful.
