Observations

Observations should be part of your every day practice, and are now required for your evidence in line with the EYFS. It is a way to find out information about the children in your care. All children are individual and observations are vital when identifying and responding to a child’s individual needs.
 
Observations are good practice and can also give you evidence for change within your provision and to improve the quality of care.
 
An observation can be on:
  1. An Individual child
  2. A group of children
  3. A specific activity
  4. An area within your provision
  5. The environment
 
Your evaluation of the observation will support you in identifying an action or target from the information the observation has given you, this could be:
