Transition Document

All pupils should be given the best possible support and guidance in their education to ensure they achieve their full potential.

The Transition Document and Supplements provides guidelines around best practice to support young children through a challenging and exciting stage in their life when they transfer from the distinct Foundation Stage to the National Curriculum requirement set out at Key Stage 1.

This comprehensive Ealing Transition Document and Supplements promotes excellent practice for the transition and transfer of young children from FS2 (Reception) to year 1. However the good practice detailed could be extended beyond year 1, if your school chooses to be creative, imaginative and even challenge convention!

These guidelines take account of research that has taken place by the DFES, Sure Start and various Local Authorities around the country. The guidelines identify good practice and are also link to the primary – secondary transition projects carried out in Ealing by the EAZ.

Every school is unique community and therefore it is crucial that each school tailors the guidance to their local needs, resources and focus for school improvement.

Ealing’s advisory team encourages all members of the SLT and practitioners to use these guidelines to review and adjust teaching and learning for this crucial transition and hare the process with parents/carers and of course the children themselves.

We would finally like to thank the steering group who have worked hard to produce such a comprehensive and useful document.

Yours Sincerely
