Communication, Language and Literacy Development

Communication, Language and Literacy Development

These are materials to support practitioners to develop early reading and accelerate the pace of phonics teaching within a rich, engaging and stimulating Foundation Stage Curriculum. While the focus is on the Foundation Stage, there are obvious links to work supporting children from birth to three and to year 1 and beyond, particularly those children who need additional support to be successful early readers and writers.
The CLLD programme is based on recommendations of the Rose Review and on key lessons learned from a former pilot the Early Reading Development pilot (ERDp).
Ten schools in Ealing are involved in the pilot and receive consultant support. The main expected outcome of the pilot should be clear and detailed evidence of children’s progress and achievement at the end of Foundation Stage in terms of both reading and writing development.
