Outline of the day
The day will start with a keynote speech by
Marcella Phelan, Assistant Director of Children &
Families - touching on the value of the role that
every practitioner plays in families’ lives, and the
impact that this relationship can have on children’s
wellbeing.

We will then have short presentations from key
Ealing family support services:

SAFE (Supportive Action for Families in Ealing)
SAFE teams have health professionals, psychologists,
therapists, counsellors, social workers and school
and family workers.
How can they help? What issues can they best
support with?

Ealing Coram Outreach
Coram provide a number of services through
Children’s Centres and can talk to and visit parents
at home to establish their needs.
How can families access their service? How can
Coram support you in your setting?

Family Information Service (FIS)
The FIS receive over 400 calls a month from families
wanting information on childcare and childcare
funding, parenting, Tax Credits etc.
What can they advise on? How can they support
your information giving to families?

If it’s worked for us – it can work for you!
Hear from an Ealing childcare provider about how
staff are trained and empowered to deal with
difficult family issues and to deliver appropriate
guidance and signposting to parents/carers.

Ex-head teacher Gill Borg, will then give an overview
of Ealing’s revised and now widely-used CAF (Common
Assessment Framework) outlining it’s role in ensuring
families access the right help and support in a timely
and effective way.

This is followed by an interactive discussion, involving
character based dramatic performances as we welcome
back The Splinter Theatre Group.

After viewing a number of key information stalls at
lunch there will be an opportunity to get into smaller
groups to attend a dynamic workshop. The workshop
aims to get you thinking about how you communicate
with the families that you are interacting with.
