Emergency Contraception
The 'morning after pill'
Don't panic! If you've had sex without using contraception or think your contraception hasn't worked, emergency contraception may be able to prevent a pregnancy.
The emergency contraception tablet should be started within 3 days (72 hours) of unprotected sex (but it needs to be taken as soon as possible to be effective and the earlier it is taken, the more effective it is). Emergency contraception DOES NOT protect against sexually transmitted infections.
Access to FREE emergency contraceptive tablets is available from:
- Most GP’s
- Local family planning clinics
- Any family planning clinics 0845 310 1334
