Safeguarding children

Any individual, group or organisation working with children needs to understand current legislation, guidance, recommended policy and procedure about safeguarding children.

Ealing's Safeguarding Children Board have put together a Child Protection Policy and Procedures, code of conduct commonly referred to as the 'Yellow Book' to help anyone working with children to understand what is required, develop their own policy and procedure or adopt those outlined in the book.

Ealing has also published Safe Recruitment Guidance for anyone responsible for recruiting staff for work with children and young people.

This guidance emphasises the importance of ensuring that there is a structured process in place for recruiting both paid and non paid workers including appropriate checks being made on an individual BEFORE they start working (CRB check, reference checks etc). Also contains helpful sample documents such as application forms, reference requests etc.

Ealing Council's website has a section on safeguarding children and child protection that explains what to do and who to contact if you have any concerns.
